If you are feeling worried, overwhelmed, lonely, lost, or stuck, I can help. Calm & peace are within reach.
You deserve the well-being of a purposeful life. You deserve to be your own authentic self.
From our work together, you will gain clarity about what matters to you. You will learn to trust your own feelings and inner wisdom. We will work together to explore small doable steps that make sense to you.
I am licensed to provide therapy to Florida residents when I am in the State of Florida. I provide life coaching online to Florida residents from out of state. I have been a clinical social worker, LCSW, therapist in private practice, part-time since 2011. In 2022, I added Coaching to my services for holistic well-being. (See FAQ tab for more on Coaching.)
I love supporting my clients in their life transitions and healing work. Therapy and coaching are a natural extension of my service approach to living. Before beginning my advanced education and training as a clinical social worker, I worked for over 20 years in higher education, public library service, and the creative arts. After several years of community volunteer work and personal reflection, I knew that I wanted to expand my ability to be of service in ways that were not possible from a library reference desk. I earned my Masters in Social Work, MSW, with honors from the University of South Florida. From 2012 - 2017, I provided supportive counseling to cancer patients and their families as an Oncology Social Worker at Moffitt Cancer Center. My professional internships involved grief and traumatic loss counseling and medical social work at various locations, including hospice bereavement, research hospital, health clinic, and non-profit community agency.
At different times of change in my life, I have benefited from being in therapy. I continue to work on myself and to grow as a therapist through continued education. I earned a certification in Integrative Medicine for Mental Health. My license allows me to assess for nutritional and other lifestyle habits, and then coach you in healthy self-care, or refer to trusted practitioners, as needed.
People are unique. Most of my clients self-identify as "sensitive." I enjoy helping persons with a Highly Sensitive Personality (HSP) trait value their gifts and manage the challenges of trait-related states, such as sensory or emotional overloads.
People heal in different ways. In a typical therapy session, my focus is on being present with you, witnessing your story, teaching spaciousness of thought, encouraging emotional expression, and supporting healthy, accountable behaviors. I believe that each person is doing the best he or she can at any moment to try and meet basic needs for safety, security, affection, belonging, support, esteem, dignity, meaning and purpose. Let's find what works for you to heal: We might try conventional or alternative treatment approaches to best serve your needs, values, and preferences. My training includes evidence-based in-person and virtual EMDR (EMDR Level II), Grief Recovery Method, and Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, however, I am not providing EMDR nor couples therapy, virtually. I am exclusively serving clients online. For most, it is safe now, post-pandemic for couples to meet with a therapist in-person. My background in Gottman Method therapy deepens my individual therapy work with one member of a relationship. I advise couples to see a couples' therapist and am glad to offer guidance on that search process. As a trauma-informed therapist, I assess and educate clients about the impact of past trauma, and, if indicated, might teach nervous system regulating skills, or refer out to trusted colleagues for E.M.D.R or A.R.T trauma resolution treatments.
People heal within relationships, including the therapy relationship. The focus of therapy is on you. Although the positive regard of therapy can feel like friendship, it is not. It is a relationship of care that supports your choices for growth and transformation. I occasionally self disclose, if I feel a piece of my story can benefit your inner work by linking normal experiences to common humanity and removing shame. Sometimes new clients want to know a little bit about me. When I’m not working with clients or engaged in continued education for my therapy practice, I enjoy a balance of solitary activities (walking in nature, reading, writing, and yoga) and social time with friends and family (sharing a meal, attending cultural events, or watching movies together). I have a daily Mindfulness meditation practice. Healthy living is high on my values list. Browsing in used bookstores and libraries are fun activities for me. I enjoy the authentic joy of children, especially my own grandchildren.
